We’ve been working behind the scenes to improve everything about our Vinyl Club and are psyched to finally be back for year two. We had a few delays along the way in year one, but we learned a ton. So with that in mind, we thought it would be fun to start adding to our collections on a regular basis, and the Vinyl Club was born. Those of us who love the look, feel, and sonic warmth of vinyl are sorta in our own little, exclusive club. When we launched the Vinyl Club in March of 2020, it was a labor of love as we are huge music fans ourselves and are so excited about the resurgence of vinyl. Starting today, subscriptions are open to Fifth Members for year two: Vinyl Club 2022! Better, as in pressing on 12” vinyl allows us to give you more consistent, higher quality audio and the opportunity to include more music in each release. “Vinyl Club is back… and it’s bigger and better than before! Bigger, literally, as in all releases for Vinyl Club 2.0 will be on 12” vinyl instead of 7”. ![]() I could go on and on, but instead of reading me rave do what you really oughta do: take this sucker out, turn it on and give thanks to Steve Hammond for giving us the honky tonk record we need in these tumultuous times.Metallica have officially announced the 2022 edition of their “Vinyl Club.” Fans can sign up for that HERE. Then there’s my personal favorite: the dreamy “Someday Mother” and its hot guitar licks. There’s dark, lovesick weepers like “The Knife Behind Your Eyes,” while “Halfway to Crazy” (the lone cover in the collection) is the swingin’ honky tonker you didn’t know you needed in your life. ![]() What you have in your possession are 13 ace honky tonk tracks that showcase his range and versatility. All this is to say that Steve is well-qualified to make not just a credible honky tonk record, but an incredible one. I’m here to tell you he knows a heckuva lot! As a recent convert to the sounds of Steve Hammond, I was unfamiliar with Black Ale Sinners, his very first country band from his Lawrence, KS days back in the early 2000s, his time in various honky tonk bands in New Mexico, the 6 (or is it 8?) country albums he’s recorded in his 30+ album catalog or his Honky Tonk Record Club 7” series (from which several songs are featured here). Sure, Steve excels at the full spectrum of what can broadly be defined as “rock” music (if you haven’t, check out his 2021 album A Perfect Half-Life it’s a winner!) and has impeccable credentials as a producer, but what does he know about playing country? ![]() "When I found out Steve Hammond was making a honky tonk record, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Vinyl purchase also comes with download of 4 bonus/b-side cover songs originally by George Jones, Johnny Paycheck, Reno & Smiley and Frank Black! Brand new LP featuring 13 honky tonk tunes, half of which have never been released before, 4 of which were previously released on limited edition 7" lathe cuts as the Honky Tonk Record Club series, 2 from the small songs album plus a cover of The Jesus and Mary Chain's noise pop classic "Halfway to Crazy"! ![]()
